Frequently asked questions

What size generator do I need?

It depends on what you want to keep running: the whole house, or essentials like the furnace, well or sump pump, fridge, and some lights and outlets. We’ll go through your loads and size the generator and transfer switch to match.

What is a transfer switch and why do I need one?

A transfer switch safely separates your home from the utility grid while the generator is running. It prevents dangerous backfeed onto power lines that can injure utility workers, and it’s required by code. An automatic transfer switch starts the generator and switches over for you.

Can you connect my portable generator?

Yes. If a full standby unit isn’t in the budget, we can install a properly rated inlet and interlock or manual transfer switch so you can safely run a portable generator into selected circuits. Never backfeed through a dryer outlet.

Do generator installs need permits in Spokane?

Yes. Generator and transfer switch installations need an electrical permit and inspection, and gas connections may need a separate permit. We handle the electrical permitting and inspection and will walk you through what else your installation needs.
